Concert 2, Winter Dreams, Performed Dec. 2019

This Concert Series was about a journey through Winter Dreams. The music for each piece along with the story and journey that the characters and the composer went through was the inspiration for this collaborative series of artwork created by Kelly Young and her daughter, Gracie. In preparation for creating the art together, Kelly and Gracie listened to Symphony No. 9 on numerous occasions. This powerful piece played in the background while they painted together.Kelly and Gracie listened to the music. The descriptions below are how we interpreted the music and the story behind it what inspired it.

The Music From the Nutcracker resembles a child like escape from reality in that Clara, the little girl in the story is longing for something and reaches it in her dreams.

Inspired by: Finale from Symphony No. 5, op. 82  Jean Sibelius

The music represents the freedom in what Jean Sibelius felt when he finally finished this finale. It took multiple attempts and an imaginable great deal of creative struggle. Inspiration finally came when he viewed 16 beautiful swans.
